Responding to questions today about whether he had spoken to Kevin Durant since he announced he was leaving the Thunder, Russell Westbrook admitted he writes Durant a letter every day “like the dude from ‘The Notebook’.”

Despite immediately claiming to never have actually watched the movie all the way through, Westbrook continually referenced, as well as directly quoted, ‘The Notebook’ when discussing Durant.

“We were just a couple of young kids, a typical Noah and Allie, I guess,” said Westbrook. “And just like them, despite our differences, we had one important thing in common: We were crazy about each other.”

Concluding the press conference, Westbrook turned to the cameras and seemed to directly address Durant. “It was real, wasn’t it? You and me. Such a long time ago, we were just a couple of kids. But we really loved each other, didn’t we?”

Those in attendance said the display of emotion was sweet, and extremely uncomfortable for everyone.

We can't play sports*, but we can make jokes about them!
