Some people think that I lack self-awareness, that I spout off hot takes without any basis in reality. But I do countless hours of research that lead me to sports opinions that are often unpopular.
In this case, I feel utterly justified in saying that the Thunder will not win a single game in the 2016 NBA Finals.
I know they have Kevin Durant, one of the greatest scorers in the history of the sport. I am aware that they have Russell Westbrook, a point guard who could go off for 42-13-17 on any given night. I totally get that they have the defensive length to create match-up nightmares around the hoop for either the Warriors or the Cavaliers.
But I just can’t see them staying with these better teams for a full 48 minutes of a Finals Game.
They don’t have a two-way force like LeBron (no one does). They’ve already proven they can’t win four of seven against the Warriors. They definitely have no answer for Kevin Love. And they lost in the Conference Finals and so are ineligible to play in the Finals!
Look, I know that as soon as I hit “send” on this article, I’m going to be flooded with a thousand angry tweets from Thunder fans telling me that I’m a blowhard idiot who wouldn’t recognize good basketball if it punched him in the taint. But just come back to me in two weeks; we’ll see who’s laughing last and who understands the rules of which teams are and are not allowed to play in the Finals.
