Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook announced his plan to marry longtime girlfriend Nina Earl, along with the revelation that both parties maintain an an opt-out clause after the 2016-17 season.
“With the way the market is shaping up right now, it just makes sense,” Westbrook told ESPN’s Marc Stein. “We love each other, and we’re gonna be together forever. But with the salary cap set to skyrocket over the next two years, Nina and I both want to make sure we’re compensated full market relationship value.”
Westbrook and Earl have both been involved in high-level collective bargaining agreement talks over the last few months, including television rights (who gets to hold the remote control) and healthcare (leaving the toilet seat down).
