New reports suggest that Tom Brady’s suspension included only 1 game for football-deflation and 3 games for appearing in the upcoming season of HBO’s “Ballers”.

Brady’s 4-game suspension, upheld by an appeals court earlier this week, was initially understood to be a penalty for his alleged role in DeflateGate, but sources now indicate the majority of that punishment was a rebuke for making a cameo in season 2 of HBO’s football drama. Goodell does not like the show and reportedly has encouraged NFL players not to appear on it.

“Goodell doesn’t like the way ‘Ballers’ portrays NFL players and feels his role as commissioner gives him authority to punish players for television appearances detrimental to the game,” said one source with knowledge of the commissioner’s thinking.

Brady reportedly makes a cameo in episode 7, telling Rob Corddry’s “What’s up? I’m Tom Brady.”
