Oops! Looks like swimming star Ryan Lochte won’t have to be extradited after all, LOL! The 12-time Olympic Medalist is actually still in sunny, sexy Rio!

Turns out the star swimmer looked up at the Christ the Redeemer statue in the Tijuca Forest National Park, and assumed he was in New York City, looking at the Statue of Liberty! Could’ve happened to any of us, honestly!

The series of misunderstandings led Lochte to believe that Ipanema Beach was actually Coney Island, that the Olympic Stadium was Madison Square Garden, and that the Amazon River was New York City’s Carnegie Deli.

When asked how he could have made such an obvious mistake, given that the statues look nothing alike, and that he has no recollection of getting on a plane to leave Brazil yet still believed he was in New York, Lochte responded: “Uh, well, you see, the thing is… I was mugged by 100 guys with guns!”

UPDATE: Lochte’s passport has been taken, and he is currently “swimming home by heading toward the sun, because everyone knows the sun sets in the north.”

We can't play sports*, but we can make jokes about them!
