The Cleveland Cavaliers’ plans to celebrate their historic NBA championship win at a local Chili’s franchise were abruptly stopped when JR Smith tried to enter the restaurant without his shirt on.
“I understand there are health codes and state laws that have to be followed,” explained Smith. “But, c’mon. I’m JR Smith. From the Cavaliers. And JR Smith don’t wear no shirt.”
The team was hoping to take advantage of the restaurant’s two-for-one-appetizer and free refills promotion. “Those crispy cheddar bites are too good to pass up,” continued Smith. “And baby back ribs for under $10? You gotta be kidding me. You’re losing money if you don’t eat here!”
The manager of the Euclid Avenue-based Chili’s was excited to welcome the team into the restaurant, but refused to make an exception for the still-topless shooting guard.
“Of course it’d be an honor to host the Cavaliers after such an impressive win. But if we let Mr. Smith break our company policy, we’d be opening the doors for other famous athletes to do so.
“That being said, they’re more than welcome to use the Chili’s To Go window, clothed or otherwise.”
