An examination of declassified NHL emails reveals internal discussions that center almost entirely around commissioner Gary Bettman inviting colleagues to his band’s shows.

“If people aren’t doing anything on Saturday, Slackjawed Waitress (my band) is playing the Claremont Backstage at 11pm,” Bettman wrote in one such email, this one to representatives of the NHL players union. “$5 door.”

The emails reveal that Bettman derailed conversations about concussions to direct recipients to the SoundCloud page for his band, which he describes as “upbeat bar rock – think Counting Crows”.

None of the released emails reveal a colleague agreeing to attend a concert.
