The nation’s view of Colin Kaepernick has skyrocketed after Tony La Russa criticized the quarterback, a new poll finds.
Kaepernick has been the subject of criticism for his national anthem protest. But La Russa’s comments—in which he attacked Kaepernick and called him “insincere”—seem to have single-handedly flipped the country’s opinion on the quarterback.
“Everyone hates the Cardinals and La Russa’s always been a crusty old scold,” said one media observer. “If a guy like that says you’re doing something wrong, you’re probably doing something right. And I think people finally realized that.”
La Russa also criticized Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones for calling baseball “a white man’s sport.” La Russa’s comments resulted in Jones spontaneously winning an ESPY for “Most Popular Athlete Ever.”
