Even though Rob Gronkowski is sidelined for tonight’s game with a hamstring injury, the Patriots tight end says that he is still excited to help the team out by staying in the locker room and deflating game balls.
“I’ll do whatever I can to help the team,” Gronkowski told reporters. “And Coach Belichick said I can give the locker room guys a hand with deflating the balls. And then he said, ‘Don’t tell anybody about this.’ Oh, wait.”
Gronk then looked around, puzzled, for a few moments before continuing.
“Normally it takes those guys a while to deflate all the balls good because they’re not strong like me so they have to use a metal thing,” he said. “And also Tom likes them a certain way. But now we have a new Tom, and my leg hurts, so I’m gonna deflate the balls.”
Gronkowski explained that he would probably deflate the balls by squeezing them really hard, but that he might also deflate a few by spiking them.
“I think if I spike them a bunch of times it’ll work,” he said. “And maybe New Tom will like that and Coach will say I did good.”
