Patriots interim quarterback Tom Brady has reportedly been sent back to the bench, now that starter Drew Bledsoe’s chest has finally healed after a vicious 2001 hit knocked him out of the game.
“[Brady] has filled in admirably for us,” said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. “He stepped up when we needed him, winning four Super Bowls and keeping us on track as an organization.”
“We’re just glad that Drew is healthy now for the playoffs,” Belichick added.
Bledsoe is second in Patriots history in passing yards, and third in touchdowns and wins. His backup Brady is first in each of those categories by a hefty margin.
“Drew has been a great mentor to me through these last 15 years, and I’m sure he’ll be terrific against the Broncos this weekend,” Brady wrote on his public Facebook page.
Brady is now fourth on the Patriots quarterback depth chart, behind second-year Jimmy Garoppolo and former Kent State signal caller Julian Edelman.
