Gender pay disparity is a hot button issue, but there’s one sport that’s gone to great to lengths to ensure that women receive the same pay as men: college basketball.
In contrast to other fields where women earn a fraction of the pay of their male counterparts, female college basketball players receive the same zero dollars as the men.
“Gender pay equality and non-pay equality is an important issue and we congratulate the NCAA on its commitment to this cause,” the Coalition for Equal Pay said in a statement.
In addition to the NCAA, the coalition’s annual “Pay Gap Report Card” also praises other institutions for non-paying women the same as men, including The Olympics and corporate internships.
The report card, released Wednesday, criticizes U.S. Soccer for paying women less than the men, although it praised sports media for under-covering women’s soccer the same as men.
